The Date Night Game That Went Totally Wrong

He refused to explain why she needed to bring her Lovense toy. Then he invented a game she had no chance of winning.

My boyfriend told me to get dressed because he had planned a surprise date. Naturally, I assumed dinner, maybe a movie, something cute and predictable. What I didn't expect was him telling me to bring my Lovense toy and absolutely refusing to explain why.

Our first stop was dinner. Before we even ordered, he pulled out his phone, smiled, and said, "Tonight, I'm in charge of the surprises." We had made up a little game: every time I correctly guessed something about him, I got to ask him a question he had to answer honestly. Every time I got something wrong, he got to choose a playful surprise through the Lovense app.

I was feeling pretty confident until I realized that apparently, after all this time together, I still didn't know his favourite childhood movie. The funniest part was that he was so focused on being mysterious that he accidentally knocked his entire glass of water into his lap. I laughed so hard I cried. He looked at me completely seriously and said, "Well, that wasn't the reaction I was going for."

After dinner, we drove somewhere quiet, put on our favourite playlist, and talked for hours. Somewhere between laughing about the restaurant disaster and sharing memories we'd never told each other, the night became about so much more than flirting. What made it unforgettable wasn't even the teasing. It was realising how much fun we could have together when we stopped taking everything so seriously.

And the plot twist? A few days later, he admitted he'd spent an entire week planning the perfect romantic date, only for his favourite memory to be spilling water all over himself.

My advice? Don't try to make every moment perfect. Add a little mystery, make up your own rules, and leave room for things to go hilariously wrong. Sometimes the best dates aren't the ones that go according to plan. They're the ones you end up laughing about for years. Although I will say, he's no longer allowed to keep his phone next to a full glass of water. 😂💕
