Living La Vida Low Cost: How to Save Money on Sex Toys & Adult Fun

Sex toys can add excitement and pleasure to our sex lives, but they can also cost a pretty penny. If you’re a frequent user of sex toys or adult products, or just getting started, there’s no need to break the bank for a satisfying experience. We’ll explore various ways on how to save money on sex toys without painfully compromising on quality or pleasure. From shopping smart to DIY projects, you’ll find plenty of options. So get ready to learn some expert tips on how to cut costs and enhance your sexual pleasure.

1) Be A Relentless Sales Hunter

This might seem like a no-brainer, but if you exercise a little patience and revisit your preferred site or product again and again, you might catch a sale. And if you have a specific one you have in mind, keep on it – you might land a whale of a sale.

Also, even though one product might sell for one price on one site, that doesn’t mean it will be sold for that much on other sites – however, this more applies to white brands and not so much name brands.

2) Use Discount Codes Anywhere You Can

At the checkout, if there is a space to add a discount code, find one! It’s as simple as typing in the company’s name + “discount code”. There will be plenty of out-of-date ones or fakes, and a few failed tries, but there will usually be one that works. And often, if you’re a first-time buyer, there’s always a “welcome” discount.

Some are for free shipping, others for extra discounts on clearance or overstocked items, and you can always find the 10-20% off ones. It might seem like small beans, but saving a dollar here and there can add up. Also, 20% off a big purchase can be a lot. Some bloggers who review sex toys might include a special discount code. I know because I’ve done this for two of my reviews.

Discount Overview:

Online Store Average Savings Free Shipping Threshold Exclusive Offers
Lovehoney Varies $49+ Special discounts on birthdays
Pink Cherry Varies $59+ Weekly deals and seasonal sales
Adam & Eve Varies $59+ Free gifts with purchase
Lovense Varies N/A App-controlled toys discounts
SheVibe Varies $68+ Unique illustrations and rare finds

3) How To Save Money on Sex Toys – HOLIDAYS!

Speaking of patience and discounts, waiting for key holidays is the time when you can save BIG. Black Friday, pre-Christmas, Boxing Day, and pre-Valentine’s Day are all great times, but some sellers in different countries might have other holidays they will attach sales to.

It’s worth bookmarking your favorite sites and checking in around celebration seasons. This can include St. Patrick’s Day, Pride Month, Spring Sales, and even Halloween. However, it’s important to point out Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It’s been proven that many retailers (sex toys or not) change their price listings to make it seem like you’re getting a deal when you’re not.

“Imagine a world where the quest for personal pleasure propels an industry’s value skyward, aiming for a breathtaking $75.73 billion mark by the dawn of 2030. The landscape of pleasure gadgets is not just growing; it’s catapulting into new realms of prosperity.”

This is why it’s vital to look at the toys you want well ahead of time, note their price (and whatever changes they make – even what other sites sell them for), and then see what the next big sale rush is really all about, and if you’re truly getting a great deal.

4) Sign Up for Mailing Lists

These have pros and cons, and it’s largely affected by how the company handles its newsletters – mostly if you sign up and get emails every other day (which we all hate).

But if it’s something you can tolerate, sign up for the ones you’re interested in, and the ones that highlight special offers – usually distributors (not specific brands) will send you news about discounts, but even well-known brands will give the occasional heads-up. Some will also give a “thank you discount” for new people signing up.

5) Use Loyalty or Point Systems

If it’s a small, one-off purchase, it might not be worth it. However, if you know you’ll be buying many things from one site, sign up for their points system ASAP. Even if you only get something small or cheap in return, you’ll still get more than if you didn’t bother (on purchases you would have made anyway). This, of course, really only applies if the sign-up is a free system.

On a personal note, I used to work in the kind of place that offered loyalty programs, and it drove me nuts seeing people turn down loyalty discounts that would have saved them A LOT of money.

6) Always Do Your Research!

We talked about looking for sales, but this isn’t the same kind of research. Part of saving money is not wasting it on bad purchases.

  • Look at product images carefully – Check for things like sharp or bad seams on clothing or BDSM gear, be wary of cheap clothing on professional models, see if any sex toys are the real deal or rip-offs of name brands, and check if white-brand products are cheaper on other sites, etc.
  • Read reviews – If a few people complain about this or that, it might be a bit of bad luck on their part. But if MANY people complain about the same thing, it’s probably a crappy purchase.
  • Compare different sites – I know, I’m being a broken record on this, but I really want to hit this point home. It can help get a bigger/proper picture of user reviews or weed out any inconsistencies. For example, some people might leave a bad review because they broke their product and can’t get a return. But that doesn’t make the product bad.

  • Be careful of sizing – If they have a sizing chart, read it! Because different countries, even companies, have different sizing. And we all know the truth about “one-size-fits-all”. For example, a Chinese L will not be the same as a European L – and I speak from personal experience.
  • Read all product details – Items in the image might not actually be included (e.g., for strap-on harnesses), it might advertise one material on the page but another on the product box, and pay close attention to size, dimensions (careful they’re talking about the product, not the package it’s put in), materials, add-on, assembly, power sources, and whatever extras!
  • Know the return policy – Some products you can’t return, and if you don’t like it, you’ve lost that money.

7) Balance Quality vs. Price

Granted, the markup some places put on their products feels out of proportion, but there’s a point where going super-cheap will end up costing you more money in the long run. For example, if you’ve found a certain sex toy style you love, replacing it every time it breaks (plus shipping) could be the same as if you had bought a mid-priced one (or even a high-end one) – and the nicer ones often come with warranties and guarantees.

Keeping mind that no one is saying you HAVE TO buy luxury or anything in the higher ranges, but better quality (and slightly more expensive) toys might be worth a look (and looking is free).

8) How to Save Money on Sex Toys – Become a Tester

If you’re willing to be a guinea pig, some companies will ask people (often previous customers) to test a new toy. This usually is through a newsletter announcement (another reason to sign up) or direct contact. The good news is that it will 99.9% of the time be FREE.

The downside is that the toy could have lots of issues because you are dealing with an alpha or beta version – then again, that’s what you would be signing up for. It’s a bit of a gamble yes, but maybe worth the leap. And who knows maybe the potential of the prototype is something you will love enough to keep track of for when the final product comes out.

“According to a report by Grand View Research, the global sex toy market size was valued at over $33 billion in 2020 and is expected to reach nearly $53 billion by 2027, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.7%.” More competition means competitive pricing!

9) Become a Sex Product Reviewer

There are many ways to do this. For example, Lovehoney has a system that if you leave useful reviews on several of their products (good or bad reviews don’t matter as long as they’re helpful) they will send you something from your wish list for free to review next.

It’s a time investment (as well as a financial one) but if you plan on spending anyway, you could get something in exchange for your feedback. Or, if you want to go more serious, start a sex toy review blog and be your own reviewer. Don’t forget to go into major detail about the products you buy and with lots of pictures you’ve taken yourself.

Use social media to get more followers etc. Contact sellers for free samples. If you can reach enough people, you can get affiliate links (which you can make money from). Not only will you offset the cost of your sex toy habit, but you’ll also be helping others make informed purchases as well (and saving money too!) YAY!

IMPORTANT NOTE!

If you’re aiming for high-end toys, you need to make sure that your follower base is large enough that the company is going to get enough coverage from that toy back to its website/link. Meaning, if you have 100 followers, you’re not going to get free, expensive sex toys. But if you have plenty of a social media base, make sure you make good on whatever deal you have with that company, or you’ll get blocked.

10) Take Care of Your Toys!

This is an after-purchase action, but taking good care of your adult products (even the cheap ones) will extend their lifespans and keep them with you longer. It’s a long-term strategy for saving money. For example:

  • Always charge your inactive toys every 6 months.
  • Wash them before and after each use.
  • Dry them thoroughly after use and store them properly.
  • NEVER use silicone lube on a silicone sex toy. It sticks to the material and degrades the silicone into a glue-like substance.

11) Go the DIY Route

You’re not going to be able to make your own vibrating dildos or sex machines. But going DIY is more in the sphere of kinky or BDSM products. Think of things like going to the dollar store and buying feathers for tickling instead of the expensive version from the online fetish store. You can buy blindfolds for dead cheap if you want to explore sensory deprivation or just sensual sensation play.

For example, there are several ways on how to make a sex toy with a towel or other household items (plenty of masturbators/fifis/pocketpussies), so you gents out there can rejoice. And if you have an electric toothbrush at home, there are safe ways to change it into a makeshift clit stimulator.

12) Explore Subscription Services for Regular Deals

Subscription boxes aren’t just for beauty products and snacks; they’ve made a big splash in the world of sex toys too. These services can be a fantastic way to save money, especially if you’re keen on regularly exploring new toys and accessories.

  • Curated Selections: Each box is like a surprise party filled with toys, samples, and sometimes even full-sized products.
  • Cost-Effective: Subscribers often enjoy a significant discount off the retail value of the box contents.
  • Exclusive Deals: Many subscription services negotiate deals with manufacturers to include products at a lower cost.

“The tapestry of daily intimacy is evolving, painted with the strokes of an increasing number who turn to pleasure devices daily, doubling the count since 2018. This shift towards daily indulgence underscores a broader acceptance and integration of pleasure into the fabric of everyday life.”

13) Leverage Seasonal Clearances

Ever noticed how some holidays tend to prompt a surge in sex toy purchases? Well, what goes up must come down. After big holidays, many retailers are left with excess stock that they’re eager to move. This is where you can swoop in and save:

  • Post-Valentine’s Day: Love may be eternal, but Valentine’s-themed toys don’t sell as well in March.
  • After Pride Month: Many LGBTQ-themed products see deep discounts.
  • End-of-Year Sales: As retailers prepare for new inventory, you can find incredible deals.

Knowing what’s up-and-coming in the sex toy world can also help you save money. Here’s why:

  • Discontinued Products: When a new model comes out, the older version often goes on sale.
  • Emerging Brands: Newer companies might offer introductory pricing or special promotions to break into the market.
  • Technology Trends: As sex toy tech evolves, older tech gets cheaper. Staying ahead of the curve means you can predict when prices might drop.

  1. Elevated Interest in Sexual Wellness: There’s a noticeable rise in attention towards sexual wellness, with an array of companies offering products aimed at enhancing both pleasure and overall sexual well-being.
  2. Integration of Advanced Technology: The sex toy industry continues to embrace technology, evident in the proliferation of app-controlled toys, virtual reality experiences, and interactive devices that synchronize with multimedia content.
  3. Demand for Customization and Personalization: Consumers are increasingly seeking tailored experiences with their sex toys, driving the development of customizable features, adjustable settings, and personalized designs.
  4. Emphasis on Sustainability and Eco-Friendliness: A growing segment of consumers is showing interest in environmentally sustainable and ethically sourced sex toys, prompting manufacturers to produce items made from eco-friendly materials and sustainable practices.
  5. Focus on Inclusivity and Diversity: Recognizing the importance of inclusivity, the sex toy industry is expanding its offerings to cater to diverse body types, genders, and sexual orientations.
  6. Mainstream Recognition: Sex toys are gaining mainstream acceptance, reflected in their increased portrayal in media, advertising, and popular culture.
  7. Rise of Discreet and Portable Designs: There’s a noticeable trend towards discreet and portable designs that offer convenience in storage, travel, and usage across different environments.

15) Network at Community Events

Beyond online forums and social media, real-life community events can be a goldmine for savings and connections. Workshops, product launches, and sex-positive gatherings often feature giveaways, raffles, and exclusive discounts for attendees. Plus, the networking opportunities can introduce you to insider tips and tricks on where to find the best deals.

Interesting Tidbit

In some progressive communities, sex toy libraries or lending programs exist, allowing people to borrow body-safe and thoroughly disinfected sex toys for a limited time. This innovative approach provides access to a variety of toys without the expense of purchasing them outright.
